So you’re ready to book family photos (yay!) — but now you’re wondering:
“What’s the best time of year to do it?”
In short: there’s no wrong season, but each one gives a totally different vibe — and depending on your family’s energy, your styling preferences, and what you want to *do* with the photos, one season might fit better than another.
I’ve photographed families in Vancouver through every season for over 15 years, and here’s what I recommend based on the time of year:
🌸 Spring Photo Sessions in Vancouver
Best for: cherry blossoms, flowers in bloom, mild temps, light & airy colors
Spring is one of the most visually stunning times to shoot in Vancouver — cherry blossoms, magnolias, and fresh greenery create a dreamy, romantic backdrop.
💡 Best months: Late March to Early May
📍Top spots: Queen Elizabeth Park, Kits cherry trees, Stanley Park, and I have some amazing secret spots that are WAY less busy (that's why I won't mention them here 😉)
👗Style tip: Pastels, creams, soft denim — think fresh & light

☀️ Summer Sessions
Best for: golden light, beachy vibes, warm weather, barefoot play and Lavender Fields (good until late july)
Summer is perfect if you want carefree, seasonal family photography with lots of movement and glowing evening light. It’s also when the most mini sessions happen — quick, fun, and sunshine-filled.
💡 Best months: Late June to early September
📍Top spots: Jericho Beach, Iona Beach, forest trails
👗Style tip: Neutrals, soft earth tones, light fabrics (avoid heavy patterns)

🍁 Fall Family Photos in Vancouver
Best for: rich color, cozy textures, “classic family photo” vibes
Fall is the most popular time to book a session — and for good reason. You get those golden leaves, soft light, and the kind of outfits you want to wear anyway.
If you want your photos for holiday cards or gifting, this is the time.
💡 Best months: Late September to early November (book early as my schedule fills up fast!)
📍Top spots: Deer Lake Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Burnaby parks - And again, I know some amazing spots that are less busy and more private!
👗Style tip: Layered knits, deep tones, boots, textures — yes please

❄️ Winter Sessions (Yes, Even in Vancouver)
Best for: cozy in-studio shoots, snow if we’re lucky, dramatic skies
Winter is underrated — especially if you want a studio session or to document newborns or quieter indoor moments. It’s also a great time for gift certificates, holiday mini sessions, and capturing that “togetherness” energy. Also, I book a lot of Extended family sessions during this time as families are together for the holidays!
💡 Best months: December to February
📍Top spots: Queen Elizabeth Park, My studio, Stanley Park, Mt. Seymour (for snow), or even your home!
👗Style tip: Textured knits, cozy accessories, rich neutrals

📅 So... When Should You Book?
It depends on:
- What kind of vibe do you want (playful vs moody vs elegant)
- Your schedule (some families do summer AND fall!)
- Whether you want outdoor light or indoor cozy
There’s no wrong answer — but if you have a season in mind, it’s smart to book early, especially for fall family photos in Vancouver, which sell out fast.
