I was featured on CTV News!!
1. I AM GETTING A LOT OF REQUESTS AND IT MAY TAKE ME A DAY OR TWO TO GET BACK TO YOU AND BOOK YOUR DAY.
2. I WILL KEEP BOOKING EVERYONE IN BUT I'M NOT SURE WHEN THE PROJECT WILL COME TO COMPLETION.
IT MIGHT BE WHEN WE HIT OUR $5000 FUNDRAISING GOAL, OR IT MIGHT BE WHEN QUARANTINE IS OVER OR GOSH FORBID WE GO ON FULL LOCKDOWN THEN I WOLD NEED TO STOP AT THAT POINT. I'M JUST GOING TO FEEL IT OUT AS WE GO AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!
THANK YOU FOR WANTING TO PARTICIPATE!!
It feels like the world has stopped, doesn’t it?
Yet, I am very, very aware that I am here – in Vancouver B.C. Canada – with my family and neighbors, friends and others (though virtually or through significant social distancing!) during this unprecedented time.
For those of you who don't know me, hello! I'm Laura-Lee Gerwing (you can call me LL) and I have been a professional full-time photographer for 10 years now! See more about me HERE!
As a photographer, I typically spend hours every week capturing images of families in times of joy: babies on the way, newborns, siblings, grandparents and more. Those moments of joy are still happening in homes right now. I know it. But I can’t be there to capture them.
Like everyone, Vancouver and surrounding area residents need to do their part in the COVID-19 crisis and stay at home.
Myself and other photographers across the world are documenting this time by taking five-minute “Front Steps Portraits”.
The purpose of this project is to bring us together virtually when we might feel isolated. I aim to highlight the faces of our community during a time when we might not see them in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, on the train or at the gym. Participating in this project is also an opportunity to step up to help those who need it most right now in Vancouver.
You will know when I am coming. You can step outside, where I will be standing near your driveway or street, at least 10 feet away. I will take a couple of quick shots and leave. I physically interact with no one, and touch nothing, during these sessions.
I *do* smile and laugh with you, however, and don’t we all need a little bit of that right now?
Live in an apartment? Meet me out front!
Families, couples, pets, on your own, hospital workers, police, etc. - all are welcome rain or shine!
After your quick session, I will email you the digital file of your portrait. In exchange, I ask you to make a good faith donation to Canuck Place Children's Hospice a favorite charity of mine whom I have worked with in the past!
This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session if you don't want it to be. Want to stand outside in your pajamas and slippers? Sounds good to me. Kids in mismatched clothes but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic. Wearing your bike gear because you’re headed off to ride a trail in the nice weather? Love it!
I document each day in my stories, don't miss those!
